The largest Eagle in the world that went extinct 500 years ago
The Haast’s eagle, or Harpagornis moorei, was the largest eagle ever known, dominating the skies of New Zealand for centuries. With a wingspan of up to 3 meters, this apex predator preyed on large, flightless birds called moas. The arrival of Polynesian settlers around 1400 AD marked the beginning of the eagle’s demise.
