First time since World War II: Austria’s Freedom Party secures far-right victory in national elections
The far-right Freedom Party, led by Herbert Kickl, achieved its first national parliamentary election victory in Austria with 29.2% of the vote. Despite this win, forming a majority government remains unclear as many rival parties refuse to collaborate with Kickl. The outgoing coalition of the ÖVP and Greens lost their majority.
