Grandmaster D Gukesh led India to its first gold medal in the ‘Open’ category at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest. Discovered by coach V Bhaskar at age seven, Gukesh will compete against China’s Ding Liren for the world title later this year. The success has greatly increased chess’s popularity in India.
