SC to hear in January plea raising issue concerning pre-censorship of films
The Supreme Court will hear a plea in January 2025, challenging pre-censorship of films. Filed by Amol Palekar, the plea argues that documentaries are not covered under the Cinematograph Act’s definition of ‘cinematograph’ and that pre-censorship is irrelevant in the internet age. While the government has introduced amendments to the Act, the petitioner claims these don’t address his concerns.
