UP cops make rape accused pay Rs 50k, ‘force’ minor girl to drop plaint

Police in Barabanki, UP reportedly forced a 16-year-old rape survivor to withdraw her complaint in exchange for Rs 50,000 from the accused. The SP suspended two officers and detained the accused and his brother. Senior officials were alerted after delays in the investigation were reported by the victim’s family.
