When Kamal Haasan asked, ‘Why was ‘Chemmeen’ not called a Pan-Indian film?’
Celebrated actor Kamal Haasan has expressed his admiration for Malayalam cinema, questioning why the classic film ‘Chemmeen’ wasn’t considered pan-Indian upon its release. He highlighted that the film transcended language barriers, captivating audiences across India. Haasan emphasized that Malayalam cinema achieved pan-Indian appeal long ago, citing ‘Chemmeen’ as a prime example. He further noted that while recent successes like ‘RRR’ and ‘Baahubali’ are lauded as pan-Indian ventures, Malayalam cinema’s achievements deserve equal recognition. Haasan believes that a film’s impact should not be defined solely by the ‘pan-Indian’ label.
