Why is the sky blue? NASA explains

The sky appears blue due to the scattering of sunlight by atmospheric gas molecules. Shorter blue wavelengths scatter more than longer wavelengths like red, making the sky blue. Despite violet scattering more, our eyes see the sky as blue because of less sensitivity to violet.
