In 1982, Vinod Khanna shocked Bollywood by leaving at the peak of his fame to join Osho’s commune in Oregon for spiritual enlightenment. Despite pleas from Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor to stay, Khanna was resolute. He later returned to Bollywood, reintegrating with Mahesh Bhatt’s help through the film ‘Jurm’.
