‘Barroz’ release in trouble: NRI author sues Mohanlal over copyright dispute
Mohanlal’s much-anticipated fantasy film ‘Barroz’ faces a legal challenge from NRI author George Thundiparambil, who claims it plagiarizes his novel ‘Maya.’ George has requested a court injunction to block the film’s release, suing Mohanlal, writer Jijo Punnoose, producer Antony Perumbavoor, and director TK Rajeev Kumar. Despite sending a legal notice in July over copyright concerns, the film’s makers proceeded. ‘Maya,’ published in 2008, shares key similarities with ‘Barroz,’ and a proposal was allegedly discussed in 2016. The release date for ‘Barroz’ remains uncertain.
