Alcohol poisoning kills dozens of people in Iran
At least 26 people have died in Iran from drinking methanol-contaminated alcoholic beverages, leading to hundreds of hospitalisations. The incidents occurred across northern and western provinces. Since alcohol consumption is prohibited in Iran, many turn to bootleggers for supplies, risking exposure to toxic substances. Alcohol poisonings have sharply increased in recent years.
