Ecuador to begin drought-driven power cuts early

Ecuador will initiate scheduled power cuts a day ahead of schedule due to its worst drought in 61 years. Daytime blackouts are planned for Sunday in 12 provinces to preserve water resources. Hydroelectric reservoirs, which meet 70% of national demand, have fallen to critical levels after experiencing no rain for 71 days.
