Limited uptake of Legal Studies at senior secondary level in government schools
The introduction of Legal Studies in Indian schools, initiated by CBSE in 2013, faces challenges due to limited uptake, teacher shortages, and inadequate infrastructure. The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) recently questioned the availability of this subject in Delhi government schools. Legal Studies remains largely confined to a few private schools. Experts highlight the need for specialised teachers and awareness campaigns to promote the subject, suggesting that collaborative efforts between CBSE and education departments are necessary for broader adoption.
