Double 1960 Olympic champion Otis Davis dies at 92
Otis Davis, an Olympic gold medalist in the 400 meters and 4×400 relay at the Rome Olympics in 1960, has died at age 92. He was the first man to break 45 seconds in the one-lap event. After retiring from athletics, he became a teacher and coach. He was a torchbearer for the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and remains a significant figure in the University of Oregon’s history, with his image displayed on the Hayward Field tower.
