Cancer research: IISc finds mechanism for controlling tumor growth

Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science have discovered a genetic mechanism in the FEM1B gene that promotes cancer cell growth. This process, called stop codon readthrough, results in a longer and unstable protein, leading to reduced levels of FEM1B and increased cancer cell proliferation. This finding could pave the way for new cancer treatments.
